Are your crafty and wanna help out the community? You can sew masks for local hospitals with free kits from JoAnn Fabric! You can swing by and pick them up curbside and pick up the materials that JoAnn has coordinated with medical professionals to make sure the materials are accepted by hospitals. Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium may be temporarily closed, but thanks to the power of Google, you can virtually bring animals into your home for free with your phone! When you search for certain animals on Google, you will see a “View in 3D’ option. Animals include the giant panda, cheetahs, lions, wolves, hedgehogs, turtles and more! You can still catch a flight from Epply Airfield to select destinations, but taking a vacation is not the best idea as we stay home to stay safe. Several hotels worldwide are offering up live streams of their stunning views for a “Virtual Vacation”. Even if you take a few minutes to envoy the sights, you can visit Malibu and watch the waves crash on the beach from the Malibu Beach Inn…how about a trip to the French West Indies? Le Barthelemy Hotel & Spa in St. Barths has plenty of breathtaking videos to give your mind an escape from reality!
Maybe you want to learn to play the guitar. Now you can from the comfort of your own home with Gibson’s free online music classes. You can get up to three months of free Amped Guitar learning by downloading their iOS app. It’s a virtual teacher that listens to you play and instinctively adapts to the lesson. CLICK HERE for the free trial. It’s limited but they didn’t specify how many downloads they are offering.
Social Distancing doesn’t need to keep you apart from your family and friends…if you connect with them online! It’s easier than you think with the use of your smartphone, tablet and apps like Houseparty and Snap Chat. Although staying connected through technology is not the same as in person, but it’s a great temporary solution. You can also try the following options to help with the adjustment to our lives:
- Open FaceTime on your iPhone or iPad
- Tap on the + in the upper right corner
- Type the name of the person you want to call
- Enter up to 30 additional contacts
- Tap on Video or Audio to place your call
- Download and open the Zoom app on your mobile device or tablet
- Click on Join A Meeting
- Enter the meeting ID number and type in your display name
- Select if you want to join vis voice or video
- Go to hangouts.google.com or open Hangouts in Gmail
- At the top of the page, click on New Conversation
- Enter and select a name and/or e-mail address
- Type your message on your keyboard and press enter
