Been a while since I shared some music that I am digging on right now. Around 3 or so years ago the below song came across my desk. I was hooked within the first 20 seconds. It sounded so similar to the shoegaze bands I love (and miss) from the early 90s like Catherine Wheel and Adorable. If you aren’t familiar with the term “shoegazing” I’m sure you’re not alone. Long story short… this type of sound drew heavily on many layers of effects, so when performing live the musicians were constantly staring down at their effects pedals, which made them look as though they were gazing at their own shoes.
I caught this band live when they played an opening slot at the Waiting Room. My wife and I talked to Anthony, their drummer, at great length at their merch table after their set. He mentioned they were going to be going out on the road and opening for Thrice. We looked at the tour dates, and then decided to plan a trip to Chicago (where I grew up, and where my parents still live) to see them at the House of Blues. That show was months, or maybe even close to a year later… but when we sought the band out at their merch table, Anthony said to us, “Hey… you guys were at our show in Omaha right?” It was really cool that he remembered that, and it further cemented my growing love for this band.
There have been a few departures in their lineup, and Covid has certainly changed things up for them, but they have a new single now that I will be throwing in to my “Fresh Meat” show this Sunday night at 9pm.
