Lizzo is stepping into a new era with the announcement of her next studio album, Bitch, set to arrive June 5. The reveal came on her birthday, adding an extra layer of celebration for the singer as she prepares to launch her new music.
Lizzo posted on her socials: “HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! To celebrate I present to you — MY NEW ALBUM 𝖡̶𝖨̶𝖳̶𝖢̶𝖧̶ COMING JUNE 5TH. Wanna get me a gift? Pre-order my album baby!!!!”
To preview the project, the album’s title track was released, alongside a music video. The song draws inspiration from Meredith Brooks’ 1997 hit of the same name, reworking its message through Lizzo’s signature lens of confidence and self-expression.
Lizzo said in a statement: “Reclaiming the word Bitch is power. It’s taking a label once used to diminish women and turning it into a declaration of confidence, and unapologetic self-love.” Lizzo also paid tribute to artists who helped redefine the term over the years. “So many incredible women in music have used the word for positivity like Meredith Brooks and Missy Elliott,” she said.
The upcoming album release follows Lizzo’s single “Don’t Make Me Love U” earlier this year, which offered a glimpse into the album’s direction. The album also marks her first major project since 2022’s Special, which featured the chart-topping hit “About Damn Time,” along with her later mixtape My Face Hurts from Smiling.
